64-year-old Diana Nyad completed her cage-less swim from Cuba to Florida yesterday. With her face burnt and blistered, she gave a very strong message, timeless and true, never give up. As she said during her news conference on CNN this morning, “never give up on something that is important to your heart. Look and see what is inside yourself and you’ll find a way. Age really is just a number. I’m proving that you can be at your physical peak at my age.” She attempted to swim this route five times, her first attempt was when she was in her 20’s.
What an amazing women. Not only in what she accomplished physically yesterday, but the message she is sending out to those who are feeling discouraged or frustrated with meeting their goals. Your challenge may not be swimming in shark infested waters for 53 hours, but it may be a 5k marathon. It may be to obtain your degree, change your career or get into shape. We all have personal goals that are important and meaningful in our own lives, our own journey. I know when I am feeling discourage or hopeless, I only need think of Diana Nyad, a woman who did not stop until she achieved what she set out to do.
What’s your goal?
