Moving Up In the Weighted World

If you read this post, you may recall that my spaghetti arms almost gave way when I increased my weight on my bench press. I was almost squashed like a bug under the weight of the bar and looked very much like the diagram below. ( original artwork by yours truly by the way. The things I try for this blog.)

Yesterday at the gym, I felt especially energetic and strong. Could it have been that steel-cut oatmeal with blackberries pre-workout? I’m couldn’t say for sure, but I felt as though I could really challenge and push myself.

So I attempted to add weight to the Olympic bar for my bench press. It was the same weight, five extra pounds (2.5 lbs per side), that I failed at pressing before. I was smarter this time around and asked a trainer who just happened to be working out at the same time as me, for a spot. To both our delight, I was able to press this increase in weight with no assistance. I did four (count ’em) four reps all by my lonesome. I was so proud of myself as I thought that my goal of tigress was that much closer. Skinny arms don’t fail me now. I’m moving up in world of weights!
